Melody & Muse - July 2025 🎶

Hey friends, Brad Arthur here..
welcome to the July edition of
Melody & Muse.

This month has been full-on in the best possible way. Between long studio days, creative breakthroughs, and quiet runs under painted skies, I’ve felt more connected to the pulse of life and my creative calling again. It hasn’t all been easy, like most months, there have been challenges, but what’s kept me going has been the music, movement, and moments that remind me of what really matters.

This newsletter is a reflection of that. The songs, quotes, and videos I’m sharing this month have brought me energy, comfort, and perspective when I needed it most. They have widened the flow of energy that drives me towards my creative calling and I hope they offer you that value too.

Let’s press play and dive in.

This one is a really weird and wonderful masterpiece that I heard not long after it was released and it has always stuck with me as a reminder that you can do whatever you want. Cashmere Cat always makes such a definitely recognisable sound that knows no conventional boundaries, often bringing huge mainstream artists into that world with him. If you made something fully expressed, wild and wonderful in your own way, what would it sound like? I love that music can feel this expressive and wild.

Holy moly. now this might not be everyone's cup of tea but it's amazing to me how deep the experience of being really can cut. The music video being so soft and gentle visually in many ways whilst the vocalists are screaming their hearts into the heavy instrumentation is really something moving. I love that music can feel this heavy and gut wrenching.

Its raining right now and the summer rain never felt more bittersweet with this undeniably blissful track. Missing someone can be one of the deepest feelings life has to offer. I love that music can feel this warm and gentle.

My Favourite Quotes 💬

Rumi

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.”

The most common form of despair is not being who you are. There is an incredibly rich source of depth, wisdom and joy to be found in really listening to what you really love. I don't mean the chocolate bar that you adore or the reality TV netflix show you watch to chill out and unwind, although you never know even within those things there could be something worth paying attention to, I mean the thing that gives you energy and enthusiasm effortlessly. The thing that always piques your interest when a video about it appears or that you would gladly spend hours doing for free.

Benjamin Franklin

“Well Done is better than well said”

As I mentioned at the opening of the newsletter, this has been a very busy, full on month and I've been loving that. What's really made a difference is focusing on doing or resting. Talking about what you will do can be valuable if you voice your vision to the right people but only sparingly. Do way more than you talk about doing and watch the world light up.

Unknown

“If you are worried about the cost of going for it, you should see the price of staying exactly where you are ”

It’s all there to play for. You learn and grow by trying, doing, failing, trying again, and eventually succeeding. Don't be afraid to define what you want, what success really looks like, and what you hope for. That kind of honesty can be scary, because once you name it, you also make the risk of failure real.

But staying in the apparent safety of inaction or hiding behind indifference might feel comforting in the short term. In truth, it's often just defeat in disguise. Being specific about what you want, even when it’s uncomfortable, gives you a direction. Without that clarity, you’re just drifting. With it, you’re actually moving.

My Favourite Videos 📽

Gawx - The Strange Freedom Of Knowing Nothing

video preview

Gawx is a mind blowing creator. This video is so packed full of depth, value and awesome insight. If he doesn't inspire you to start creating something, thinking like a child again and pouring your creativity into something new that inspires you then I don't know what will. He speaks about being a 'forever beginner' and there is something magic about that approach. Seeing him dive into a completely new world in this video was really cool. If you haven't seen any of his other videos I would definitely recommend exploring his artistic universe.

Michael Meade - Your Calling Keeps Calling

video preview

Michael talks about how responding to the adventure of your own self discovery isn't just meaningful and beneficial to you but it's equally valuable to others too. Like I mentioned in my 'Give me 9 minutes and I'll give you 10 years video' the world really need more people doing something that lights them up. Even if you are in a moment of difficulty or deep challenge in your life the signal towards your calling is still there, perhaps even louder than ever.

You’re Not Supposed to Understand Everything (Do This Instead)

video preview

'Some things are not designed to be understood, only lived through'. Everything about this video really spoke to me. Coming from an Engineering background I have a tendency to want to intellectualise everything and explain it all, equating not knowing with a limitation that I ought to fix. When really it isn't required to live and thrive, to play and to love. I used to think it was annoying that reality is greater than us and we are expected to live in it without full understanding of how it works, but the more I lean into doing, feeling, creating and sharing the more I realise that the mystery and unknown in all of those is what makes them special. 'You are not a code to be cracked but a mystery to be lived'. Seeking understanding isn't bad, it can be really valuable, but it needn't become the sole goal, feeling the magic of the adventure is.

Question of The Month ⁉️

The common narrative is that kids learn faster than adults, but if you watch any toddler they spend a large portion of the day attempting things that are on the edge of their ability.

How much time have you spent on the edge of your ability today?

furthering the exploration back into the world of play and youthful spirit. Keep trying new things, failing forward and having fun in the process.

What's going on in my world?

New music & deep creative flow.

I've been deep in a creative flow recently and there is plenty that I can't wait to share when it is ready to be in the world. For now I am soaking in the fullness of summer and letting it fuel me. I've been doing a lot more running recently because it feels so good to get out into the world and move my body, especially when the colours around me look like this. I hope wherever you are that you are taking moments to immerse yourself in the world, fully feeling into the light and life around and within you. However heavy, however dark life may get, there is always beauty to be found and you never know how good it could get if you let it.

I hope you enjoyed this month's newsletter and I'm excited to see what next month will bring. I hope it's continuing to be a year full of play, creativity and joy for you.

Keep creating, learning and growing. Much love!
